Welcome!

Welcome!

Thanks for following me over here…if you’re one of the three people left who’s listed as a follower, I appreciate it. So yea, it’s been a long while. I’ve been trying to resurrect this blog for a couple of years (no, really!), but it’s hard to know where to start, where to untangle the words, to figure out which stories to tell or which quilts to write about. So I’m going to follow the Yarn Harlot’s example and just be imperfect and say it anyway.

Go read her story about the French Lesson here: No seriously it’s hilarious; I’ll wait.

So where to start…it’s been …for all practical purposes, almost 5 years since I posted anything of substance…so what happened. Well, my job happened and not in a good way. Due to circumstances there, the stress levels kept ratcheting up, and up and up. And I thought I was hanging in there, coping, adjusting, but really I wasn’t. Then as things started to improve, Mama Belfry’s cancer metastasized and she began a long, slow decline. We lost Mom a year ago at Christmas. She chose to end treatments and enter hospice, and 11 days later she was gone.

That’s a lot of the reason, I didn’t pick up blogging again. Mom was my quilting buddy. We didn’t agree on a lot of things, but we could talk about quilting. As she got sicker, she didn’t have the energy to sew any more. Or it wasn’t as high a priority as other things. So I stopped quilting too because I didn’t want to make her feel bad. In hindsight I think she would have probably enjoyed living vicariously through my projects, but I didn’t think about that at the time. She got to see a few projects as I finished them. She finished a quilt in 2016 that I quilted for her for Christmas which was her last full size project. There’s a project at home that she started, but I don’t know what she intended it for. There’s a few blocks and a self-drafted pattern. I told Dad and sister that I would finish it, and I’m pretty sure Mom left it intentionally so I would finally have to learn Y seams.

So, that’s the circumstances around here. We’re coping with the hole in our lives where Mom used to be, some days better than others. And I’ve been quilting again.

If you’ve bothered to read this far, you get a gold FQ, and my thanks. I’m trying to set goals again and work through unfinished projects, so I’m planning to write more regularly again. I’ll do some catch up posts on quilts I finished. The 2016 post will be short: I made one baby quilt and 2 placemats. 🙂 I’m planning to participate in the Finish Along challenge, and get those piles dealt with.

So, how are things in your neck of the woods?
